Holiday baking fun

Hello all you cupcake lovers! Happy New Year!, wishing you all a sweet indulgent 2013.

 

During the 2012 Christmas break in sunny South Africa, I took on a few small baking projects to treat the family

IMG_7134IMG_7135IMG_7138IMG_7137My daughter and i had lots of fun decorating these vanilla and lemon cupcakes with fondant, I let her decide on the final decorations.

IMG_7375 To satisfy my mum’s craving for cinnamon rolls, i researched a quick, no yeast recipe and she woke to these one morning.

IMG_1143  And of course there had to be chocolate! Layered chocolate cake filled with chocolate frosting and then drenched in a liquid dark chocolate ganache.

Onwards and upwards to an exciting and fun new year!

Happy Birthday Nicole!

Nicole was visiting the US on her birthday but two weeks later came her cake surprise. Everyone who knows her, knows of her love for her gorgeous black cat, Pablito. and as she loves red velvet cake (not as much as she loves Pablito) I incorporated that into her cake by making her a not-red-red velvet cake, with fondant Pablitos sprawled over the cream cheese frosting.

When preparing to frost the cake, I was struck by how much it looked like a giant oreo!

It’s a boy!

The lovely Jenn hosted a baby shower for Krystal who is expecting a boy in September.

For the party I was asked to make some of Krystal’s favourite cupcakes – vanilla, mocha and as a surprise for her, Oreo.

IMG_5961 IMG_5966 As a gift from me, I baked a mocha and vanilla custom baby shower cake. IMG_5959 There were mini cupcakes of each flavour for nibbling on during the party.

Jenn wanted normal size cupcakes as party favours for when the guests left, I loved her idea!

Happy 40th birthday M

No better way to celebrate the return from my vacation than with birthday cupcakes (not mine!) Best wishes to Mike on his 40th, I hope he enjoys the lemonlicious cupcakes topped with red and white fondant.
